Hannah Martin was engaged by us to help us develop and to draw up a Planting Plan required to meet a Planning Permission Condition imposed by Exeter City Council.
Hannah visited the site with us and during the visit discussed ideas with us. We knew what we wanted in the garden but needed help to draw up a scheme that incorporated our joint ideas in respect of ornamental grasses as well as wildflower meadows, hedges, and the ‘legacy planting’ that included trees. The hand-drawn Planting Plan was submitted by Hannah and incorporated by our architects BARC into a formal submission to Exeter Planning, all of which was duly approved.
We took these ideas to specialist suppliers of grasses, trees, wildflower meadows, etc and in due course decided upon the final elements that would best work in our landscape.
The resulting landscape and garden is widely admired for its appropriateness, ambition and colour by neighbours, visitors and, of course, ourselves. Not to mention, the bees, butterflies and other insects and fauna attracted to it.

We had decided to change a large area of the garden which was a neglected bank of old plants, shrubs and a major problem with ground elder.
Hannah came and assessed the area. Immediately she understood what we needed and what would work for us and the garden.
Hannah came up with several plans beautifully crafted with photos of the chosen planting and a comprehensive design. She was willing to listen and adopt our ideas and concerns and In the end we achieved a beautiful garden which is now in its second year and evolving all the time with swathes of colour all the year round.
