Portfolio: Moroccan inspired planters
In early 2020 I travelled to Marrakech in Morocco, to explore the famous gardens. I was inspired by Jardin Majorelle and Le Jardin Secret on my trip and have designed a series of Planting Schemes with exotic plants I saw in Morocco. This project is centred around three oversized CorTen steel plant pots, that play with scale and proportion. Their playful striking size adds to the drama. I researched the plants I had seen in Morocco but chose plants suited to the British climate. The design centred around large established Agave americana variegata, then I added in drought tolerant plants like Asphodline lutea, Eucomis pole evansii, Eryngium agavifolium and Kniphofia ‘John Benary’. Around the CorTen planters I planted ornamental grasses like Miscanthus sinensis, Panicum ‘Heavy Metal’, Pennisetum ‘Hamelm’ and Calamagrostis brachytricha to soften the industrial material of the planters.
